2021 Cadillac Escalade

It is really becomes a challenge to redesign a massive luxury SUV, but the engineers at Cadillac really hit it out of the park with the introduction of the new restyled Escalade for 2021.  They took Cadillac's king-sized land yacht Escalade beyond a simple car introduction to a full-scale cultural event for its flagship's 2021 opening party. 

 

The result was a more sophisticated look for a mature full-sized 3 row luxurious people hauler.  The outside of the new “Slade” has a larger muscular grille, bigger wheels and is longer and higher than before. But Cadillac kept the proportions measured and the new Escalade still looks like a very powerful SUV with its chiseled skin and curves in all the right places. Which in turn makes the driver feeling great riding high behind its steering wheel.

Granted the exterior is sleek and sophisticated, but stepping inside in where you will be really impressed.  That makes so much sense is that is where you will be spending your driving time. The star of the show in its luxurious cabin is the massive curved OLED screen, all 38 inches of it. An industry first. This “tell-all” info tablet is subdivided into three distinct sections ahead of the driver.  You have a 7.2-inch capacitive menu panel to the left of the steering wheel, a 14.2-inch display that serves as the instrument cluster and the incredible nearly 17-inch screen perched atop the center stack. All are contained within one arcing frame with an illuminated crystal Cadillac emblem on its rear face with strips of real wood placed near the screens.  The entire infotainment setup is intuitive, responsive and so user friendly.  This system is so state of the art in the luxury-car segment gadgetry and is “over the top” cool.  It even can be controlled by a rotary knob on the center console which is a welcome touch who prefer hands on. 

Also standard is a 19 speaker, 14 channel AKG Studio system and an available 36 speaker 28 channel that sounds deep and rich.  This year, the Escalade brings on more interior space thanks to being longer as well as a move to an independent rear suspension with a 68% increase in cargo space behind the third large adult sized third seat.  The “Slade” overall has more cargo space than any other vehicle in its class and even more in the ESV model. 

 

Moving you quickly down the streets and highways is the mighty 6.2-liter V8 that punches out 420 horses and an awesome 460 lb-ft and asphalt grabbing torque with a smooth shifting 10-speed automatic. A turbo diesel engine will soon be offered. This new 2021 drives with newfound refinement and confidence that brings a smile on its lucky owner's face.  You might want from time to time prefer the longer way home.
